DID YOU KNOW ..... That the popping 1985 single, Oh, Sheila, was neither by Prince nor about his frequent collaborator Sheila E., although it reportedly fooled at least one of those people: The group that made this song famous is Ready For The World . Legend had it that when "Oh Sheila," which bears a strong resemblance to the 1999 track "Lady Cab Driver," came on the radio, Sheila asked Prince when he wrote it. ("I didn't," he replied.) The song's manic energy, feverish bass line and focus on a long-gone lover helped drive it to the top of the Hot 100, although its chart-topping status hasn't prevented listeners from mistaking it for a Prince track to this day. The group will be joining Morris Day And The time, TROOP, and others on August 12, 2017 at the Morocco Shrine Grounds in Jacksonville at 6pm. Tickets available at www.throwbackconcert.eventbrite.com. African-American Music Appreciation Month is an annual celebration of African-American music in the United States. It was initiated as Black Music Month by President Jimmy Carter who, on June 7, 1979 , decreed that June would be the month of black music. Since that time former president BARACK OBAMA, and current president, DONALD TRUMP have both issued proclamations in honor of Black Music Month. The legacy of African-American composers, singers, songwriters, and musicians is an indelible piece of our Nation's culture. Generations of African Americans have carried forward the musical traditions of their forebears, blending old styles with innovative rhythms and sounds. They have enriched American music and captured the diversity of our Nation. During African-American Music Appreciation Month, we honor this rich heritage.
